Roof Sheeting Installation

To protect Workers from injuries associated with roof sheathing at heights in the weather elements. |
| Definition |
Roof sheeting installation consists of fastening sheets of Oriented Strand Board plywood to the roof trusses of a new home with heavy duty staples during construction. |

This list of potential hazards is not comprehensive. Workers are required to complete a Hazard Assessment prior to starting this task to ensure all hazards are identified and controlled.

Do
- Ensure hazard assessments are completed prior to starting work.
- Ensure temporary roof anchors have been installed, and Workers are properly tied off.
- Ensure a fall protection plan is completed prior to starting work.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition.
- Correct unsafe acts and conditions immediately.
Do not
- Allow Workers to work at heights if they are not trained in the safe use of fall protection system.
- Allow work to proceed if wind speeds exceed 40 km/h or 25 mph.

| Worker Responsibility |
Do
- Be properly trained and competent to work at heights.
- Be fully conversant with fall protection systems.
- Inspect fall protection equipment before each use.
- Follow the fall protection plan and use equipment as directed.
- Ensure fall protection equipment is used properly at all times, in accordance with training.
- Know the anchor points of your fall protection equipment.
- Know the limitations and restrictions of your anchors and safety straps.
- Report any issues or concerns with fall protection immediately.
- Tie off by use of temporary roof anchors.
- Work safely and encourage co-workers to do the same.
- Use all required PPE and clothing.
- Ensure that the materials are properly secure to the equipment and communicate properly with the equipment operator when hoisting loads up to the roof level.
- Ensure the material load is properly secured once it is on the roof.
- Ensure to have assistance for lifting any heavier items while installing.
- Ensure installation is appropriately followed by manufacturers’ specifications, as well as your site-specific drawings and specifications.
- Correct any unsafe conditions or immediately report them to a Supervisor/Superintendent.
- Report any falls, injuries, or accidents immediately.
Do not
- Use fall protection equipment if you are not trained or competent in its use.
- Use defective equipment.
- Continue work if wind speeds exceed 40 km/h or 25 mph.
