An explosive-actuated tool is a device that uses explosive force to shoot a fastening pin or similar object into another material to attach or secure it in place. |

This list of potential hazards is not comprehensive. Workers are required to complete a Hazard Assessment prior to starting this task to ensure all hazards are identified and controlled.

Do
- Ensure hazard assessment has been completed, and tools have been inspected.
- Ensure Workers are trained to use explosive-actuated tools
- Ensure Workers are using eye and hearing protection when using explosive-actuated tools.
- Ensure cartridges are stored in approved containers, away from heat sources.
Do not
- Allow untrained Workers to operate Explosive-Actuated Tools.
- Allow Workers to bypass built in safety features/guards.

Do
- Provide proof of training, as requested.
- Wear eye and hearing protection.
- Inspect and load tool immediately prior to use.
- Always keep hands clear of the muzzle end of the tool.
- Store in tools and cartridges in designated, lockable boxes.
- Hold tool firmly and at right angles to the surface.
- Ensure the material being driven into will not allow stud to completely pass through to prevent free-flying studs.
- Ensure the work area is clear of other Workers before firing.
- Dispose used shells in a container with water to prevent any fire hazards.
- Have a charged ABC fire extinguisher in proximity.
Do not
- Use explosive-actuated tools if you are not trained.
- Point the tool at anyone, whether loaded or unloaded.
- Carry loaded tools between locations.
- Leave a loaded tool unattended.
- Bypass safety mechanisms or use a tool that is not functioning properly.
- Use Explosive-Actuated Tools in an explosive or flammable atmosphere.
- Walk around site with finger on the trigger.
