Assignment of Responsibilities – Supervisor/Superintendent

Supervisor/Superintendent: authority position that is responsible to oversee the work of Workers and Contractors.

  • Ensure the health and safety of all workers under the direct supervision of the supervisor.
  • Be knowledgeable about the work being supervised and the applicable legislation.
  • Ensure that Workers under supervision are made aware of all known or foreseeable health and safety hazards and the controls used to mitigate incidents.
  • Understand and apply the Qualico Health and Safety Program and Applicable Legislation.
  • Accountable to ensure that all Workers are using the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and that all work is carried out in compliance with Qualico’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Ensure all Employees and Contractors have had a safety orientation.
  • Consult with Regional Safety Managers, their Manager and/or issue safety violations notices as per Qualico’s Disciplinary Policy to any Employees or Contractors in violation of Applicable Legislation or company rules.
  • Conduct Work Site health and safety meetings and complete all required documentation.
  • Review Employee hazard assessments as per Applicable Legislation, COR/VPP, and company rules.
  • Accountable to ensure that Corrective Action(s) are applicable and completed in a timely manner for all identified job hazards. If Contractors or Employees continue to work after unsafe acts or unsafe conditions have been identified, Supervisors & Superintendents have the legal obligation to stop work until corrections have been made.
  • Perform safety inspections for all assigned Work Sites, correct unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, and enforce Qualico’s Health and Safety Program and Applicable Legislation.
  • Report all incidents to the Regional Safety Manager and their Manager immediately and prepare incident reporting, as directed.
  • Ensure that Workers operating powered mobile equipment or machinery on the Work Site are competent and can produce valid proof of certification or training, as applicable.
  • Ensure safe access to the Work Site.
  • Set a good example by using the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when performing Work Site visits and promoting safety in a positive manner at all times.
  • Support Senior Manager and Managers, as required and/or assigned.
