Emergency Response Procedure
If a suspicious package is received, contact your Fire Marshal. Do not attempt to move or manipulate the package in any way. If the suspicious package has any of the following qualities, please follow the evacuation procedure below. Discoloration, Oily Stains or Strange Odor Crystals or Powder-like residue Unusual size, weight or shape Visible wiring or batteries Suspicious Package Procedure: Place the package in a plastic bag or some other type of container to prevent leakage of contents. Do not shake or empty the contents of any suspicious package. Cover the package with anything available if you do not have the appropriate container. Leave the room and close the door or section off the area to prevent others from entering. Announce to all individuals to evacuate the area immediately, as appropriate. Call 911 and report a “suspicious package” to the Police. The person calling 911 shall provide the location of the package, details of the package and follow directions provided by the Police. If the suspicious package leaks or spills, follow these steps: Cover the spilled contents immediately. Turn off any fans or ventilation systems within the area. Leave the room and close the door or section off the area to prevent others from entering. Wash your hands with warm water and soap to prevent spreading. Call 911 and report the suspicious package spill. Do not attempt to clean the spilled contents. First Aid Measures: If contact was made with a substance from the package, ensure to follow these steps: Wash the applicable areas thoroughly with warm water and soap and seek medical attention. If a spill occurred, remove heavily contaminated clothing and place contents in a plastic bag /sealed container. Shower with warm water and soap as soon as possible. Do not use bleach or disinfectants on the skin.
