Emergency Response Procedure
Evacuation Procedure:

Upon report of any fire, gas or other hazardous fumes, vapors or particulate on site:

  • Stay calm and call 911.
  • If you spot the fire use one (1) ABC Fire Extinguisher to assist in the evacuation of your area, only if it is safe to do so and you are trained and competent to use the fire extinguisher.
  • if the fire is extinguished using the one (1) ABC Fire Extinguisher, ensure there is a fire watch in the area for 2 hours afterwards.
  • Ensure all combustibles are removed from the area to prevent the fire from reigniting.

If the use of one (1) ABC Fire Extinguisher is not safe to use, follow these steps: 

  • Alert all Workers and Contractors if the fire is not contained using one (1) ABC Fire Extinguisher.
  • Evacuate the work site and head to the appropriate muster point.
    • House Construction: Front of Site.
    • Condo Construction: Designated posted muster point area.
  • Request assistance in alerting any occupants of finished neighboring houses or condos near the construction site.
  • Once arriving at the muster point, ensure all Workers and Contractors are accounted for.
  • Identify to ensure that all injuries have been treated by a trained first aider or medical professional.
  • Wait for further instructions regarding the re-entry of the building or other instructions.
  • After given the all clear, inform individuals that they can return to the building.

Additional Information to Take Note of: 

  • The location of all Workers and Contractors.
    • Is everyone out of the area and at the designated muster point?
    • If not, where are they located?
  • Where is the fire and where do you direct the emergency services to when they arrive on site?
  • Are there any chemicals, gases, or highly combustible materials in the area?
