External Parties Directive

Qualico recognizes that all parties have a right to a healthy and safe workplace and is firmly committed to providing one. The goal of the Qualico Health and Safety Program is to protect all Employees, Contractors, Suppliers, and the General Public from health and safety hazards.

Managers, Employees and Contractors, Suppliers, and the General Public must all contribute to a healthy and safe Work Site. Complete and active participation by everyone, every day, and in every job is necessary to achieve a standard of excellence in health and safety.

Protecting the General Public

Public Access
  • Qualico will ensure that Work Sites are secured to prevent the General Public from accessing and encountering hazards on the Work Site in compliance with Applicable Legislation. This would include posting signs, site fencing, barricading of excavations, sidewalk closures and safe passage for pedestrians and vehicle traffic.
Visitors
  • All visitors to a Qualico office will be the responsibility of the Qualico Employee they are visiting / meeting to follow the health and safety policies and procedures developed and implemented by Qualico for the time being.
  • All visitors will sign in to the Work Site.
  • All visitors to a Construction Site must wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hard hats and appropriate footwear (closed toe shoes). Additional PPE may be required, as appropriate.
Customers
  • All customers on a Qualico Work Site will be held accountable for their own health and safety.
  • Review and sign a Schedule S (Canada) / Safety Protocol Addendum (US) with the Sales Agent at the time of purchasing (see Sales booklet).
  • Must be accompanied by a Sales Agent when entering Qualico properties.
  • Children under the age of 16 (Canada) / 12 (US) are not allowed to visit construction sites.
  • Agree to follow all safety rules / regulations.
  • Participate in a field level hazard assessment when visiting homes under construction, as required.
  • Will not enter any home if unsafe work is in progress and report this activity to the Health & Safety Department.
  • All visitors must wear the appropriate personal protective wear such as hard hats and vests.
  • Wear appropriate footwear (closed toe shoes).
Contractors
  • All Contractors will complete Qualico’s pre-qualification requirements prior to working on any Work Site.
  • All Contractors are required to provide their employees / and sub-Contractors with an orientation to review and understand our rules and regulations.
  • Contractor expectations are to provide the Contracted Employer’s employees with a level of health and safety protection equivalent or above Qualico’s standards and Applicable Legislation.
  • Follow Qualico’s Contractor Management Policy found within Qualico’s Health & Safety Manual.
Suppliers
    • Supply Qualico’s orientation packages and site-specific training to any personnel (employees, sub-Contractors, etc.) that may be delivering items to Qualico Work Sites.
    • All incidents and near misses are to be reported to a Qualico Manager or Supervisor / Superintendent immediately and have the scene secure for investigation.
    • Maintain good housekeeping standards and keep work areas free of debris.
    • Ensure others are not exposed to hazards from products left at the Work Site.
    • Comply with Applicable Legislation.
    • Ensure that any tool, equipment, machine, device, or any biological, chemical or physical agent, supplied by the Supplier to any Qualico Work Site is safe when used in accordance with the directions provided by the Supplier and complies with Applicable Legislation.
    • Provide directions regarding the safe use of any tool, equipment, machine or device, or any biological, chemical or physical agent, that is obtained from the Supplier to be used at a Qualico Work Site.
    • Ensure that any biological, chemical or physical agent supplied by the Supplier is labelled in accordance with the WHMIS / HazCom.
